Treating Black Spots On Roses

When you stop to think about roses, does romance come to mind? One of the top selling flowers that are sent to loved ones around the world are roses. Each color of rose has its own meaning of affection. Red roses represent love or romance, yellow roses send a feeling of warmth or happiness, pink roses offer an expression of admiration or joyfulness and white roses represent purity and are often used in marriage ceremonies or also as an expression of remembrance.

Growing roses are often thought of as a full-time job. In order to keep your rose garden free of diseases, you will need to take a few precautions. One of the best ways to prevent black spots on roses is to remove the leaves at the first sign of disease. Planting roses in an area that has a constant breeze will also help in preventing black spots. Black spots are a fungus that develop when water lays stagnant on the leaves of a rose bush. To prevent this from happening, you should water roses in the early morning hours and focus on getting the water on the roots only. By keeping the leaves dry, you are doing your part to preventing fungus from occurring. You may also want to apply a fungicide to plants that have not yet been infected by spraying a solution of one teaspoon of baking soda mixed in one quart of warm water during your early morning watering.

There are many different types of roses and some are less susceptible to fungus problems. A few rose plants that fight off fungus better are bonica, carefree beauty, cuddles, fairy and simplicity.
