Planting roses in an area that has a constant breeze will also help in preventing black spots. Black spots are a fungus that develop when water lays stagnant on the leaves of a rose bush. To prevent this from happening, you should water roses in the early morning hours and focus on getting the water on the roots only. By keeping the leaves dry, you are doing your part to preventing fungus from occurring. You may also want to apply a fungicide to plants that have not yet been infected by spraying a solution of one teaspoon of baking soda mixed in one quart of warm water during your early morning watering.
