Bats are one of the safest and most efficient ways to control insect populations. A bat is capable of eating up to a million mosquitoes per hour. They sleep during the day and feed at night. Unfortunately, they have a bad reputation. People actually fear this gentle and helpful creature. Instead of attracting bats, people are prone to use harmful chemicals that can damage life on their property.
Attracting bats can be a tricky task. The hard part is getting the bat to actually come back to your yard on purpose. In order for a bat to even consider your yard its home, it needs food, water, and shelter. To make it as easy as possible for the bat to feed, you must lure the insects to conjugated areas. To do this, simply install garden lighting. Bugs are attracted to light. Bats know this, and automatically see lighting as a plus. A couple of bird baths are enough for them to drink from. Bat houses are a deal maker for a bat. If you supply them houses along with food and water, they are sure to stay.
If more people understood the true nature of the bat, there would probably be less chemicals polluting the land. Chemicals can be dangerous and hazardous to the environment. If more bats were introduced instead of controlled, there would most likely be a better balance between animals and insects. One million insects could be rid of per hour per bat using this economically-friendly system.
